What is the right age to start swimming lessons:
The advisory age to start swimming lessons for diploma A is between 4 and 5 years old. Children younger than 4 have not yet developed the motor skills needed for the type of swimming which is demanded of them for the A diploma.
How long will it take for a child to get the A, B and C diploma?
All children can learn how to swim, but some children will learn faster than others. The fact that some children need more practice than others, could have to do with underdeveloped motor skills, the attention span of a child or possibly with fear of water. SwimFits supports each child through each learning stage. We will work towards the A diploma within 44 hours. Both the B and the C diploma we will work towards within 13 hours.
Should my child get the A, B and C diploma?
Definitely, only when a child has his A, B and C diploma, can he swim well enough to be safe in the water on his own and can so enjoy swimming his whole life.
In 1998 the so called Swim ABC was developed, in response to all the newly developed swimming paradises. These new tropical pools, with their wild water rapids and many more new forms of swimming recreation, call for children to have other swimming skills than before. Lessons that prepare for diploma C in particular will address those other skills.
Why do children also need to swim with their clothes on?
If a child falls into the water accidentally, it is usually not wearing its swimming costume. That's why one of the diploma's requirements is to be able to swim with clothes. At SwimFits children will swim wearing a t-shirt every first lesson of the month.
Can my child fail an exam?
Our swimming instructors will only have your child go up for the exam if they think that your child can pass. Our pupil tracking system helps make that decision. However, at the exam a committee will assess whether your child passes or not. In principle it is possible that your child does not pass an exam.
Is there anything I can do as a parent to speed up the learning process?
You can make it easier for your child by going to swim regularly. Use the slide and play fun games. Your presence will make your child feel at ease in the water. If your child has trouble with a specific part of the swimming lessons, it is possible to find useful video’s including explanation on Youtube. Although it is in Dutch (Google Translator is your friend) we also like to mention the website:
www.allesoverzwemles.nl. This is a consumer website of the knowledge institute for the swimming department, the Nationaal Platform Zwembaden/NRZ. This organization issues the Swim ABC, coordinates the training for the swimming instructors and monitors the quality of the swimming pool exams.
Why does the swim instructor use floats?
Initially the child needs to experience the effects of water without floats. However in some correctional methods the use of floats is necessary.
How can I see my child’s swimming scores?
By logging on to the pupil tracking system (see button above). You can login with your personal login code and password.
How do I catch up a missed lesson?
By sending an e-mail to the accommodation your child is swimming. You can find those email addresses on our homepage: New!! Email addresses per location. This has to be done at least five hours before the start of the lesson if the cancellation is due to illness and at least five days in advance if your child will be absent for any other reason. In this email please include a date and time on which you like to make-up the cancelled lesson. These rescheduled lessons have to take place whithin 3 weeks of the cancellation. Attention: Make up lessons depends on availability.
